International Film Festival in Cartagena

Cartagena, Colombia about Human Rights (2009)

During the week of August 24-29, 2009, Dr. Roberta Seret, on behalf of International Cinema Education, designed and hosted an International Film Festival in Cartagena, Colombia for university students and the general public of Cartagena and Barranquilla about human rights. The schedule of films and speakers are listed below:

Mon., Aug. 24:  Film:  La sombra del caminante (Ciro Guerra, Colombia 2005).  Subject:  Armed comflict in Colombia.  Speaker: Patricia Lara Salive, journalist and writer, vice presidential candidate in the 2006 elections for the Polo Democrático.

Tues. Aug. 25:  Film: March of the Penguins (U.S.-France).  Subject: The environment, global warming.  Speaker: Rafael Vergara, environmental engineer, director of transportation in Cartagena.

Wed. Aug. 26: Film: Persepolis (France-Iran).  Subject: Gender equality.  Speaker: Rubiela Valderrama, author of the gender equality policy for Cartagena.

Thurs. Aug. 27: Film: Central Station (Brazil).  Subject: Protection of Children and Youth.  Speaker: (tentative) Beatriz Linares, Vice presidential advisor on children and youth, author of the youth act in Colombia.

Fri. Aug. 28: Film: Tsotsi (South Africa).  Subject:  social problems and violence.  Speaker: Juan Gossaín, journalist and news director for RCN.
